Passing the Baton

The Story of Inheritor & Creator

For some, a prologue; for some, an epilogue.

This is the nature of legacy.
Whether we realize it or not, whether we’ve asked for it or not — each of us, from the moment we’re born — is handed a baton. This includes the homeless, the orphaned, the adopted. No one is exempt.

But what is this baton?

It is more than a family heirloom, more than tradition or wealth. It is the inheritance of personal and social identity, swelling from culture, religion, region — shaped by the fragments of narratives that were told and those fragment of narratives that were unadvertised in public but existed as the truth of that time. For some germinated discreetely, were silently subdued as lores of the time.

Think of the moments you’ve questioned what you lack — be it material wealth, emotional stability, or inner clarity.

It may be for some, you’ve stood in abundance, awed by the grace, fortune, or privilege that surrounds you. These experiences are rarely random. They stem from what we’ve inherited — not just property or tradition, but also beliefs, fears, traumas, and values.

Some inherit legacies of resilience, love, and ambition — assets you can touch and proudly claim. Others receive intangible burdens: shame, silence, outdated expectations, or emotional wounds passed through generations like invisible heirlooms.

The generation before have lived their life in environments that proffered challenges that were typical for that era, yet also, bestowed by reasons to appreciate that life. It may weigh with ancestral shame, fears and regrets or may pulse with inherited wisdom. There always comes a cross-road for each generation to make a choice on which stories to keep alive and which ones to put to sleep in somber.

Albeit, our parents were passed on with this baton to live by, with their today’s triumphs and turmoils that existed in their era. That’s how the baton got passed from the grandparents to the parents.

The baton pens a prologue for conquering generation, that envisage to write a fresh new narrative. Whilst the retiring generations scripts an epilogue — the closing of a chapter that must be concluded and retrospected upon.

As a youth in hierarchy — the current bearer — you are both reader and writer, holding teh power yet to unleash.

The power to ask:

1- What have I inherited that weighs me down, holds me back, or makes me question my very being?

2- What have I inherited that lifts me, fuels me, and reminds me of who I am becoming?

Make conscious choice of what story ends with you — and what legacy begins because of you while passing the baton:
Light enough to be carried with grace
Strong enough to endure life’s storms
Radiant enough to guide future paths
Resourceful enough to sustain the fire within

You are not a mere inheritor.
You are also the leader, the Creator.
